Shoryu: A unique and elegant teapot that will connect to the future.
"Shoryu Tenmoku" is a harmonious blend of tradition and evolution, and is made with a uniquely developed glaze called "Tenmoku". It is known for overturning the concept of Tokoname ware. Starting with the classic pattern that evokes a rainy window, many designs meet the needs of the times. The lightness and robustness that come with a smooth feel have earned it high praise around the world.
Tokoname teapots are beautiful crafts with a deep level of skill, and Tokoname has produced many skilled craftsmen. Each of these craftsmen has their own unique characteristics, which are greatly reflected in the production of tea utensils. In order to honor their achievements and protect traditional cultural heritage, the government created the title of "Traditional Craftsman" in 1973.
Furthermore, the Japan Traditional Craftsmen Association was established to exercise the authority to manage and certify traditional craftsmen, and there are 36 registered Tokoname ware traditional craftsmen. They are still exploring the path of pottery and seeking further progress.
Tokoname: One of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, a town of pottery with a rich history. Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, located on the west coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay, is the gateway to Chubu Centrair International Airport. It is a long and narrow terrain measuring 6 km east to west and 16 km north to south, and is known nationwide as a town of pottery. Tokoname ware, which has a history of 1,000 years, is counted as one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns.
