Kitagawa Utamaro is known for his portraits of beautiful women, characterized by their delicate and elegant lines.
It is said that, unlike portraits of beautiful women which had previously depicted the entire body, he devised a composition that omitted the body and focused on the face. One of his representative works is the Three Beauties of the Kansei Era, which depicts three beautiful women from the Kansei era (1789-1801): Tomimoto Toyohinahina, Namba-ya Okita, and Takashimaya Ohisa.
The furoshiki has a pearl finish that makes it look like mica printing. The sparkle when wrapped adds an accent.
